MAYTIME

7/29/2014

As per usual, I'm way behind on my updates here. So much has happened over the past few months - isn't summer such a great season?

I'll start with news from May. It was certainly a busy month! Aside from enjoying the freedom of completing grad school, I was able to keep a pretty busy performing/teaching schedule and explore some of Newfoundland's beautiful scenery (including some fantastic icebergs)!

Throughout April and May, I was very fortunate to teach in a special program called the Suncor Energy Strings Project. SESP is the brainchild of Carole Bestvater, who is a violinist, colleague, and close friend of mine. The model is a hybrid of El Sistema and Community Music Works programs, and this past school year was SESP's inaugural year. It was a complete success, which comes as no surprise to me! Carole is a talented and passionate musician and educator, and I'm thrilled that the program is doing well. As with any new program, SESP is always looking for donations of any kind (donated instruments, financial donation, volunteers, etc.) If you would like more information on the program or want to get involved, please get in touch with Carole here.

May also marked the start of a big transition for me. After much consideration, I decided to move back to my hometown of Toronto. The actual move didn't take place until the end of June, but May and June were filled with tearful goodbyes... especially to the Suzuki program and my cello students. I am incredibly grateful to the STEP for everything they have done for me, and I miss all of the faculty, parents, and students like crazy already!

See below for some pictures from my convocation ceremony, last group lesson day at STEP, and Newfoundland sightseeing.
